The Role of Principal Leadership as a Motivator in Improving Teacher Performance in Public Schools and Madrasah

Quality education requires effective leadership in creating a conducive learning environment and motivating teachers to achieve optimal performance. This article outlines the important role of leadership in education, focusing on the principal as the main leader in the school environment. Through a literature review, this article highlights the seven main roles of school principals, including as educators, managers, administrators, supervisors, leaders, entrepreneurs, and builders of a conducive school climate. In addition, this article discusses the role of the principal as a motivator to improve teacher performance, by designing a supportive school environment, arranging a harmonious work atmosphere, instilling discipline, providing encouragement, and giving rewards to teachers. Finally, this article emphasizes the importance of teacher professionalism and performance in determining the quality of education, by strengthening competency standards that teachers must have in professional, pedagogical, social and personality competencies. Effective school principal leadership in motivating and supporting teachers can increase their professionalism and performance, which in turn will improve the quality of education and student success.
